  1. September 28, 2020 Website migration reinforces GDTF’s promise of open data sharing for manufacturers Columbia, MD (September 28, 2020) —Global design and BIM software provider Vectorworks, Inc. along with founders MA Lighting and Robe lighting have transitioned the General Device Type Format (GDTF) website to VPLT— the German Entertainment Technology Association. This migration will ensure a compliant platform for the exchange and future development of GDTF, which offers manufacturers and users a better way of planning and controlling complex productions from design to implementation for an event. GDTF was conceived to create a unified definition for the exchange of data for the operation of intelligent luminaires. The unified standard provides a constituent and dependable way to adapt new fixtures and devices in the lighting industry. GDTF was previously recognized by DIN SPEC 15800 as an open standard for the entertainment industry worldwide. “Technological developments are part of everyday life in our industry and ensure even better opportunities to deliver creative solutions that are precisely tailored to diverse productions of the highest quality,” said Randell Greenlee, director of commerce and international affairs at VPLT. “With the publication of DIN SPEC 15800, a new and important standard for the event industry has now been created. We hope for the widest possible dissemination of the standard within the industry thanks to the companies involved — Vectorworks, MA Lighting and Robe lighting — who have strived right from the start for an ‘open’ standard.” VPLT is the German Entertainment Technology Association, representing around 800 members from the service, personnel, trade and manufacturer sectors of the event industry. The association is actively involved in all of the industry standards and standardization processes of DIN and is represented in the European standardization committee (CEN / TC 433 - Entertainment Technology). The association is also involved in standardization in the ESTA Technical Standards Program (ANSI) in the USA. “On behalf of the three founding companies, we are all more than pleased to move the GDTF website under the roof of the VPLT, an independent association,” said Gerhard Krude, managing director of MA Lighting Technology. “This step is actually underlining what was always the intention of the original website, which is a barrier-free entity for serving the entire lighting industry community of end users, as well as manufacturers regardless of products, brands and boundaries.” To learn more about GDTF, visit gdtf-share.com. About VPLT The German Entertainment Technology Association is a trade association that represents companies and individuals from the entertainment technology sector in German-speaking Europe. 2. Hi, Good news: the GDTF group has released the GDTF Fixture Builder v1.10, which was developed based on feedback from early adopters and manufacturers. It’s an ongoing process to simplify the creation of GDTF files, and this is an important step toward that end. In v1.10 of the Fixture Builder, you’ll find RDM support, 3D resource scaling on upload, helpful tool tips, and more. For a full list of new functionality and improvements, check out the Fixture Builder release notes . Plus, the GDTF group continues to receive great feedback from manufacturers who support the file format’s development and hope to see it continue to succeed. As a result of this feedback, we have further improved the capabilities of GDTF files by including clear definitions that allow for the specification and control of media servers. To learn more about these recent changes, or to receive help or training on using GDTF and the fixture builder, please reach out to info@gdtf-share.com to arrange for a consultation with the GDTF group. 6. Hello, First of all, thank you so much for filling out the interest form on the GDTF-share.com website, and thank you for your patience as we continue to work on getting to the version 1.0 release of General Device Type Format (GDTF). The response we've gotten from the industry for GDTF has been tremendous. To date, we've had over 20 companies inquire about working with GDTF. So, what has happened since the announcement? Well, we continue to work with the initial committed companies to further refine the specs of GDTF. As a result, the development of the standard is coming along nicely. If you haven't yet checked out the specs of GDTF, the GDTF wiki is a great place to start to learn more. Here, you will find descriptions of the file format and tutorials to help you create GDTF files. Additionally, we've been working to prepare the official GDTF database. We're nearing the point of having a beta of the database, and will share much more information with you about this in the near future. Robe is providing GDTF a number of devices out of the gate with the beta release of the Database, and we will be actively populating it with more GDTF files over the next several weeks. Vectorworks is scheduled to support GDTF files on export with their upcoming service pack 4 (expected to be released late June 2018) and MA Lighting will support GDTF natively when the GrandMA3 console hits the streets. We will be sure to communicate with you when we have a demonstration you can try out for yourself. There are many moving parts as we work to make GDTF a success, and we genuinely thank you for your interest. It's a great motivator for all of us. As we continue to work on this we will contact you with occasional updates, but please feel free to contact us at any time if you have specific questions you'd like to ask or support that you need. You can reach the GDTF group by emailing info@gdtf-share.com Concerning GDPR - General Data Protection Regulation (European Union reulation 2016/679): We intend to use your contact information you provided during signing up to using the contact form solely for sending out regular information concerning the further development of GDTF.
