The beautiful part of creating a unified standard across the industry is that we may not even need expensive software to process plots and make the vision become reality. In fact, if GDTF is used properly, there could be a day when the concept of a lighting plot becomes functionally obsolete. Head electricians would request the MVR file rather than the pdf or dwg. An excel sheet could parse the information and automatically do the bulk of the paperwork without a lot of the transcription errors that we see today.
It's a very exciting project, and we're going to see a lot of unintended benefits for all sizes of shows.
