Create a GDTF File

This section describes how to create a new GDTF file. Our example in this manual is a Robe MegaPointe.

Many menu elements in the GDTF builder contain popup windows (i) with further explanations.

Many popup windows contain a link (i) into the GDTF wiki with further definitions.

Requirements for Creating a GDTF File

To define a basic GDTF file, you need:

  • General information from the manufacturer like exact product name
  • At least one geometry with exact definition and dimensions
  • For lighting fixtures a DMX chart

GDTF files can also contain additional information like:

  • A product image
  • RDM Manufacturer ID and RDM Device Model ID
  • A 3D model for each geometry
  • Emitters or filters with the exact color definition
  • Gobo images
  • Prism definition
  • Definition of lighting fixture type macros

System Requirements

  • Internet connection
  • Updated browser which supports Javascript and WebGL (Web Graphics Library).

Writing rules

Some fields only allow these characters, letters and symbols: “ %=*+- <>_/:'`0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNO PQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuv wxyz@#()”; 

If other characters are used in such fields, an error messages will be shown.
